PCTs play an important function as members of the healthcare team. The program is designed to educate and train individuals to function as nursing support personnel and by the virtue of their training, they are placed above the level of certified nursing assistants, but below the level of vocational nurses. While nursing assistants work primarily in nursing homes and other long-term care facilities, patient care technicians also work in hospital settings. Essentially, they are trained to support the nursing team by performing duties that may be safely and legally delegated to them by the nursing staff.
