This workshop reviews the concept of fatherhood in society and how this understanding has changed in the last few decades. We will reflect on the personal transformation and changes experienced by men as they become fathers in the 21st Century, as well as some of the challenges men experience in their fatherhood. Finally, we will discuss the importance and impact of fathers in the life of Infant and Early Childhood development with a discussion opportunity to explore strategies to engage fathers in IECMH fields.
Objectives:
1. To learn about the contributions of fathers in Infant and Early Childhood and Relational Health
2. To gain a greater understanding of the process of transition into fatherhood, amidst social expectations, and individual experiences
3. To discuss strategies to better engage fathers in their specific field of early childhood work
