Creativity is a trendy term today. Whether in the arts or the business world, it has become so relevant that even LinkedIn considers it essential when hiring someone.
Some people conceive it as a skill. Others relate it with the capability to create something new, others associate it with the art scene, and creativity has been the interest of study inside many fields throughout the years.
For example, Stefan Mumaw, LinkedIn Learning Instructor, has dedicated his efforts to studying creativity and authored six books. According to the article “Why Creativity is the most important skill in the world” he believes that “Creativity is problem-solving with relevance and novelty.”

On the other side of the spectrum, artist Henri Mattise speaks of creating as the act of expressing what one has within oneself. Philosopher Arthur Koestler proposes it as the connection of levels of experience or frames of reference previously disconnected.
Like these characters, each of us tends to propose different definitions of creativity, according to our context and experiences.
If you want to see it for yourself, let me give you a challenge; type on google “Creativity definitions.” Afterward, check the number of definitions about it. Now, you can only take two paths; stick to an already established conception, or why not create one for yourself.
Creativity is a human skill, and therefore, we can all develop it.
No matter where you come from, your age, gender, preferences, or what you are currently doing. If you find yourself reading this, it can only mean that you are a human being. Therefore, you possess the capacity to be creative.
You must know that creativity can be developed in different ways and apply it to any scenario.
In my case, I am a person whose creative development focuses on the design, art, and communications fields. However, figures like Steve Jobs, Barack Obama, Salvador Dalí, Marie Curie, despite having lived in different times and working in totally different areas, made use of their best creative potential to achieve their goals.
LinkedIn considers creativity to be one of the most crucial skills when selecting human talent. They do so because they’re aware of the great power that differentiating ideas bring to companies.
Whether in the financial area, Human Resources, marketing, sales, or any other, creativity must be present, focused on fulfilling the goals.Creativity will allow your business to:
- Generate competitive values: Producing new ways to satisfy your customers and employees.
- Contribute to solving problems in innovative and effective ways: It is never too much to think outside the box and come up with different solutions.
- Strengthen your company’s culture: When creativity is fundamental within a company, there is room to allow your team members to be more proactive and propositive. And making them feel appreciated and motivating can be a huge payoff to the organization.
- Your company stands out: Not only for what it offers to the public but for the way it does it.
- Financial Benefits: The American market research company Forrester has found that Eighty-two percent of executives agree that companies benefit from creativity in multiple ways. One of them being increments on revenue and market share.

How to embrace creativity in your business?
Northeastern University has proposed some great ways to do so:
- Reward Creativity: Provide spaces where your employees can brainstorm and see where that gets you. Make them feel comfortable and take into mind what they say. Offer bonuses or small prizes that can unquestionably not only motivate them but make their day.
- Hire the Right People: Investing time in having the right team will open your business doors for success. Create a group based on innovation, strength, good communication, and fresh ideas.
- Try flexible hours: Not everyone is comfortable with working on the traditional 9 to 5 schedule. All brains perform better at different paces and ways. Providing flexible hours to your team can bring efficiency, happiness, and health to your team.
